ChatGPT has achieved a major global milestone, becoming the world’s most downloaded app in 2025. In less than three years, the AI chatbot has crossed 1.36 billion installs, outperforming social media giants that previously dominated global app charts.

Between January and November 2025, ChatGPT recorded more than 902 million downloads, highlighting how rapidly AI apps, AI assistants, and generative AI tools are becoming part of everyday life. During the same period, TikTok reached around 703 million installs, while Instagram recorded nearly 521 million, signaling a noticeable shift in user preferences toward AI-powered apps.

ChatGPT’s rise reflects the growing demand for AI productivity tools, AI writing assistants, and smart mobile apps that help users work, study, plan travel, create content, and solve problems instantly. Unlike entertainment-based platforms, ChatGPT offers practical value—delivering answers, ideas, and guidance through simple conversations.

Meanwhile, the competition in the AI market is heating up. Google’s Gemini AI app secured nearly 392 million installs in 2025, but the gap between Gemini and ChatGPT remains wide. New entrants like DeepSeek and Perplexity have also joined the landscape, yet ChatGPT still holds more than 80% of the AI chatbot market share, benefiting from strong brand trust, continuous updates, and global popularity.

This surge in downloads shows a clear transformation in digital behavior.
