Pakistan Government Announces Distribution of 700,000 Chromebooks to Boost Digital Education
The Government of Pakistan has unveiled a major digital education initiative aimed at empowering students nationwide. Under this program, 700,000 Chromebooks will be distributed to students across Pakistan to enhance access to modern learning tools. The announcement was made on December 13, 2025, by Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, during a ceremony in Islamabad.
Speaking at the event, Rana Mashhood emphasized that youth empowerment through education and skills development is a top government priority. He stated that equal access to technology is essential for national progress and that students, regardless of region or background, deserve modern educational resources.
Chromebooks to Support Students at All Education Levels
The Chromebook distribution program will benefit school, college, and university students. These devices will enable learners to attend online classes, complete assignments, conduct research, and access digital libraries. As technology becomes increasingly central to education, the initiative aims to ensure that no student is left behind due to a lack of digital access.
The program is being implemented in collaboration with the TIF Foundation Lahore, which will help provide 0.7 million Chromebooks. This partnership is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s online learning ecosystem and improve the quality of digital education nationwide.
Phased Distribution for Transparency and Fairness
According to Rana Mashhood, the Chromebooks will be distributed in phases to ensure transparency and fairness. A structured and monitored process will help ensure that the devices reach deserving students across the country while minimizing favoritism.
A strong focus has been placed on inclusivity. Students from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) will also be included, reflecting the government’s commitment to equal educational opportunities in remote and underserved regions.
