Steelers’ New WR Adam Thielen Achieves Notable Milestone in Debut vs. Ravens

BALTIMORE — It didn’t take long for Adam Thielen to make an impact in Pittsburgh. Less than a week after joining the Pittsburgh Steelers, the veteran wide receiver earned a starting role in Sunday’s divisional showdown against the Baltimore Ravens, accomplishing an impressive feat given the short turnaround.

Thielen Earns Starting Spot Just Days After Joining Steelers

Thielen, a 12-year NFL veteran, lined up with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, tight ends Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington, and fellow wideout DK Metcalf as the Steelers opened the game. His rapid integration into the offense stunned many observers, considering he arrived in Pittsburgh only days earlier.

The Steelers claimed Thielen off waivers from the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday. Thielen returned to Minnesota this season after spending the first nine years of his career there, but with the Vikings sitting at 4–8, the veteran receiver wanted the opportunity to contribute to a playoff contender.

Thielen Describes the Move as a “Whirlwind”

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Thielen admitted the transition has been hectic but energizing.

“I’ve never experienced anything like this. It’s been a whirlwind, for sure,” Thielen said. “Learning a new system in just a few days is challenging, but it’s exciting. It kind of brings the love of the game back — competing, practicing, learning new concepts, and understanding how a new quarterback sees the field.”

Veteran Production Still Strong at Age 35

Thielen, now 35, recorded eight catches for 69 yards in what was expected to be his final run with Minnesota. Over his career, he has averaged 4.0 receptions and 48.4 receiving yards per game, showcasing consistent production throughout more than a decade in the league.

As the Steelers continue their playoff push, Thielen’s experience, reliability, and quick assimilation into the offense could become a key factor in the weeks ahead.
