Zong and Huawei Achieve Pakistan’s First Full-Duplex E-Band Microwave Link Test

Zong, in partnership with global technology leader Huawei, has successfully completed Pakistan’s first full-duplex E-band microwave link field test, marking a major milestone in the country’s telecom and digital infrastructure development.

A Breakthrough in High-Capacity Backhaul Technology

As mobile data usage continues to rise worldwide—driven by HD video streaming, cloud computing, augmented reality (AR), and low-latency applications—telecom operators are facing increasing pressure on traditional microwave backhaul systems. Limited spectrum availability has made it challenging to deliver ultra-high-capacity, reliable connectivity.

Zong’s newly tested full-duplex E-band solution directly addresses these challenges. Using advanced high-isolation integrated antenna design and interference cancellation algorithms, the system can transmit and receive data simultaneously on the same frequency. This innovation effectively doubles spectrum efficiency compared to conventional microwave solutions.

Up to 50 Gbps Speed Using 80 GHz E-Band Technology

Powered by E-band (80 GHz) ultra-broadband transmission, the solution supports data speeds of up to 50 Gbps per link. This positions Zong to support future-ready networks, including 5G expansion, smart cities, and enterprise-grade cloud services, while ensuring faster and more stable user experiences.

Strengthening Pakistan’s Digital Future

Commenting on the achievement, Zong CTO Mr. Mao Weiliang emphasized the company’s focus on innovation and digital transformation. He highlighted that ultra-high-capacity backhaul infrastructure will play a key role in economic growth, digital inclusion, and next-generation connectivity across Pakistan.

Leading the Way in Network Innovation

With this successful field test, Zong becomes the first telecom operator in Pakistan to deploy full-duplex E-band microwave technology. The achievement reinforces its leadership in advanced network solutions and its role as a key driver of Pakistan’s national digital transformation—while aligning with global telecom standards relevant to markets like the United States.
