Pakistan and Libya Pledge Stronger Defence Cooperation in High-Level Military Talks
Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of Pakistan, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, met with Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Belqasim Haftar, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral defence ties and regional security. The meeting, confirmed by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday, focused on matters of mutual interest, military cooperation, and counter-terrorism collaboration.
Field Marshal Munir, who is on an official visit to Libya, was welcomed with a ceremonial guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Libyan Armed Forces. The delegation also included Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces.
According to ISPR, the discussions highlighted the importance of strengthening military-to-military cooperation, training initiatives, and capacity building between Pakistan and Libya. Both sides emphasized collaborative efforts in counter-terrorism and regional security strategies.
Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening defence relations with Libya, stressing the value of shared interests and mutual cooperation. In response, Field Marshal Haftar praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and expressed interest in expanding defence collaboration further.
This high-level engagement marks a significant step in Pakistan-Libya defence relations, reflecting the countries’ intent to work closely on security challenges and military development. Experts say that such meetings can pave the way for joint exercises, training programs, and enhanced strategic coordination in the region.
With growing security dynamics in the Middle East and North Africa, both Pakistan and Libya are looking to strengthen ties that not only enhance bilateral military cooperation but also contribute to broader regional stability.
