Telecom Operators to Receive Auction Details in Coming Days as Preparations Near Completion
Pakistan is edging closer to launching 5G services, as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has confirmed that the long-awaited 5G spectrum auction is likely to be held before Ramadan.
PTA Chairman Hafeez Ur Rehman, speaking to journalists, said all major groundwork for the auction has been finalized and the authority is preparing to seek formal government approval to move ahead. He noted that the rollout of 5G in Pakistan is now entering its final planning stage.
PTA to Issue Auction Information Memorandum Soon
According to the chairman, the PTA plans to release an Information Memorandum (IM) within the next 10 to 15 days. The document will outline the auction framework, eligibility criteria, spectrum details, and bidding rules for telecom operators.
Once the IM is issued, mobile operators will be given 45 days to prepare and submit their bids.
“If the Information Memorandum is released by early January, the auction could take place by mid-February,” the PTA chief said, indicating a possible auction date around February 15.
Focus on Transparency and Fair Competition
PTA officials stressed that the auction process has been designed to ensure transparency, efficiency, and fair competition among telecom companies. The authority aims to strengthen mobile broadband performance and support the growing demand for high-speed data services across the country.
The upcoming auction is expected to play a key role in improving network capacity, lowering latency, and enabling advanced digital services once 5G is rolled out nationwide.
5G Seen as Key to Pakistan’s Digital Future
The move aligns Pakistan with global trends, where 5G technology is viewed as a catalyst for economic growth, innovation, and digital transformation. Faster speeds and enhanced connectivity are expected to benefit sectors such as industry, healthcare, education, and smart infrastructure.
With the auction timeline becoming clearer, Pakistan appears closer than ever to joining the global 5G ecosystem.
