Shahina called her sister, as Yawar suggested, and thankfully, she didn't ask a single question about her past. She was so overwhelmed upon hearing Shahina's voice that she started crying, and later she told everything about their family. Their older sister Tooba, got married, and she was engaged to marry next year. But the most surprising news for Shahina was that she had a younger brother, who was born just a few months after she went missing, and his name was Omer. After that, she kept hearing Samreen talking in a daze, unable to register anything she said as her mind was preoccupied by the blurred memory of when she was kidnapped. Shahina didn’t even realize when the call ended until her phone rang again. It was Amma-Bi, who was waiting for her downstairs. She quickly shook her head and left the room. Dwelling on the past would only torture her.
If something troubles you, let me know. I will take care of it...
Once again, Yawar's words echoed in her mind. It was frustrating how his thoughts kept popping up, and his gaze she couldn't shrug off. Recently, she felt a strange sense of consciousness whenever he was around. As if there was no veil left between them, his single glance made her feel exposed. At times, she wanted to cover those eyes or hide from them, but it rarely happens.
Yawar's threats, teasing, and insults have died down with time, but she still feels like his prey. When, how, and why she developed this kind of perception, she didn't know herself.
Inhaling deeply, she diverted her mind and texted Moosa. She needs to talk to him, and she knows very well that he will meet her as soon as he gets some free time. Shahina had made up her mind to tell the whole situation to Moosa before Yawar pressed her to know it. As expected, Moosa summoned her as he reached home. But, before going to his office, Shahina made a cup of tea for him, and when his eyes landed on it, a smile appeared on his face.
"That's my little sister." He said, pointing towards a sofa. Shahina carefully put the tea on the table near him and took a seat.
"Bhai, I talked to my sister... We accidentally met in college sports week, and then she tried to approach me many times, but I avoided her as much as possible. Recently, she threatened to take legal measures against the family I am living with. Therefore, I called her without asking anyone. I am sorry." She said it all in one breath, and when finally done, she looked at Moosa nervously.
"Why do you feel the need to apologize?" Moosa asked, taking a sip from the tea.
His question bewildered Shahina, it wasn't like she had an idea where this conversation would lead, but she never thought that he would ask something so irrelevant.
"I...I... Don't know. I just thought..." She didn't complete the sentence.
"That I would get angry for not telling me beforehand." Moosa completed the sentence, and upon hearing this, Shahina's cheeks redden with embarrassment.
Moosa let out a deep breath and said, "You are grown enough to make your own decision. In fact, it will make me very happy if you do so, and I will be happier if you sometimes make mistakes... This is how people learn to live. Make decisions, whether they are wrong or right, and learn to own them. Have confidence that everything will work out well." Shahina nodded, though she disagreed with the last part.
"If you want to meet your family, you are free to do so. It is, and it will always be your decision. And if you are afraid of something, remember you are always in our sight." Moosa didn't hesitate to mention her being under surveillance.
As a matter of fact, Shahina wasn't surprised either, she knew that every person near to Moosa, Ahad, Yawar, and Natasha was under the watch of the Black Eagles, as they are the top leads, and she was not an exception. However, what she didn't realize was that she was also on the list of these people.
