Shahina thought he was joking about taking her to dinner, but here she was, sitting before him in a restaurant she never knew existed. Her world was small from the start. College, library, Natasha's apartment, her boutique, Ahad's house, it was all she knew. As far as she remembered, she went shopping hardly three to four times. Markets didn't appeal to her, she loved crowdless and peaceful places. Like where she was sitting now, yet pretending to be reading the menu and cursing herself for being a pushover.
It was a usual day like any other, and Shahina was going to the Main House after visiting the library, when the car suddenly stopped near a signal. Upon inquiring, she found out that it was Yawar's order, and after hearing the answer, she went quiet. Shahina knew what was coming next, and as expected, Yawar was already there, waiting for her near his Hilux. Therefore, she silently stepped out of the car and went to him, and received a bright smile for some unknown reason.
Shahina has noticed the recent shift in the responsibilities of the command of the Black Eagles. It happened after Moosa's marriage, and Yawar got busier than usual. She had heard long before from Amma-bi that Yawar was working hard for the place of the third in command in the gang, but she didn't know how much he had succeeded, and she never cared.
Shahina wasn't wary of this change, thinking that it might be limited to work-related matters and would not affect their household routines. But time proved her wrong, and she was caught off guard when the driver obeyed him, and this brought her to the man sitting before him.
“If you have memorized the menu, we can order.” Came Yawar’s voice, and Shahina put down the menu. She still hadn’t decided on anything because her mind was preoccupied by the thought of spending time alone with him. It will be torture for her.
“Order anything.” Shahina gave a small reply.
“Are you leaving the decision on me?” She nodded in response and started looking at people aimlessly.
“I am honored.” He mumbled and called for the waiter.
After placing the order, Yawar turned to Shahina and asked, “Why are you looking everywhere but at me?”
“What?” Shahina thought she had misheard him.
“I asked, Why are you looking everywhere, when your focus should be on me?”
“What?” She looked at him in disbelief.
“Is that the only word you have learn to speak?” He frowned. Still, Shahina didn’t answer him.
She was already feeling nervous about coming alone with a man at dinner. Though it wasn't for the first time, Yawar had already made her eat with him once. Still, eating in the car and eating in a public place were a whole different thing.
They may have spent years under the same roof, but the fact remained that they aren’t in such a relationship where going out together can be justified. And above all that, the words coming out of Yawar’s mouth were perplexing.
“Hey, look at me.” Shahina raised her gaze to him, but before he could say anything else, her eyes started watering, and she quickly lowered them.
“Why are you crying?” A deep frown formed on his face.
"Kuch Nahi (it's nothing)." Shahina shook her head.
"Then go and wash your face. You look ugly while crying."He said, pointing toward the restroom.
At this, her heart dropped even more. She was already feeling like a fish out of water, and his words made it even worse. Dejectedly, she stood up, and when she came back, the dinner was already served. Shahina thanked God in her heart and kept her entire attention on the food. She even ignored the continuous gaze of Yawar upon her, and soon she totally forgot about him as the food tasted better than she expected.
"I am glad that the food was to your liking." Said Yawar when she finally finished eating.
Shahina nodded, saying "Alhamdulillah (Thank God). And appreciate his choice of food, it was according to her taste.
"We should order dessert now."
"No." Yawar was about to call the waiter when Shahina quickly stopped him.
"Why not?"
"I am already full."
"Okay, we will grab something on the way."
"That's also not necessary."
"You're being quite persistent today." Yawar turned his full attention towards her, and she went silent again. Moments passed in this situation, where he kept staring at her, and she kept looking away.
Their relationship was awkward from the start. Shahina didn't talk much, and Yawar never had any topic to converse with her. Though he was a talkative person, he could chew Natasha's brain for hours, talk to Kanwal easily, and he even became friends with Mahnoor, but in her case, he just wanted to be near her, whether she remained silent or chattered endlessly. He just wanted to be a part of her present and her future, no matter what it takes.
